Perfect Disney Studio Pinocchio Print
Autographed by Walt Disney!

Pinocchio... a true Walt Disney classic, considered by many critics to be Walt Disney's finest film.  Here I offer a rare Disney Studio dye-transfer print of Pinocchio and his Official Conscience Jiminy Cricket, personally autographed on the matte by Walt Disney:

TO NINI    BEST WISHES    WALT DISNEY

Walt Disney autographed this for James R. Simon who worked for Disney and asked Walt for an autograph for his daughter Nini.  James R. Simon is known for his work photographing Disney's "Jungle Cat" (1960), 1958's "White Wilderness," 1957's "Perri," 1954's "The Vanishing Prairie", 1953's "Bear Country" and 1952's "Water Birds."

Simon was a zoologist and photographer, Yellowstone Park Ranger, and later Wyoming State Fish Commissioner and Director of the Jackson Hole Wildlife Park.  His wildlife photography caught the eye of the Disney Studio and he signed on as a cinematographer in 1952. For the next seven years, Simon collaborated on several award-winning True-Life documentaries, culminating in "Jungle Cat" in 1960.

Simon is cited with creating the myth about lemmings committing mass suicide for Disney's popular documentary film, "White Wilderness."  It's reported that Simon purchased several lemmings from Inuit children and brought them from Manitoba to Alberta - well outside their native habitat.  They were then allegedly taken to a cliff and herded into the water to represent their instinct for swimming during migratory behavior, which is not intended as an act of suicide.

Walt Disney has signed famous "Disney logo" printing style using brown crayon.  When signing art like this Walt Disney would choose a colored pencil from his desk which complimented a color in the print.  (A photo I took of the colored pencils on Walt's desk is shown at right.)

The original Disney Studio authenticity label is present on the back.  Included is an email from the former sellers, owners of a gallery in Wyoming, stating they have been tasked to sell the piece on behalf of the owner.  Also included is the Phil Sears Collectibles Lifetime Guarantee of Authenticity Certificate.  Framed to an overall size of approximately 15" x 14.5"  Item # 7158
