Walt Disney signing autographs on Marceline's main street during one of his two return visits of the 1950s and 1960s.  This street- Kansas Avenue- left such an impression on Walt Disney as a boy it became the basis for Main Street, USA, at Disneyland and all the Magic Kingdoms.

Walt Disney Autograph from
His Boyhood Home, Marceline, Missouri

In October of 1960, Walt Disney returned to his boyhood home of Marceline, Missouri for the dedication of the Walt Disney Elementary School.  Marceline left such an impact on Walt as a boy that its main thoroughfare, Kansas Avenue, had become the inspiration for Main Street USA at Disneyland, and it was the family farm in Marceline that provided Walt with the exposure to all the animals that would later inspire so many of his films.  Walt was important to Marceline, and the town was important to Walt... he even built a miniature Disneyland Autopia in town! 

This giant autograph- measuring over 5 1/2" long- was obtained by a Marceline resident, and includes the following email from her daughter:

"...I was born & grew up in Marceline, Missouri, and my mother got Mr. Disney to sign the back of my baby picture when he came to town for the dedication of Walt Disney Elementary School, sometime in 1960.  My mom... always told the story of walking uptown with me in my stroller, meeting Mr. Disney and asking for his autograph.  So, yes, the picture has been in my, or my parents' possession since 1960..."
