With his Signature, Walt Disney Approves Artwork

Walt Disney carefully oversaw every aspect of his productions, especially in the early years.  That included the title artwork for his short cartoons-- the artwork with the name of the cartoon at the beginning of every Disney short.  The title art would be sent to Walt's office where, if he approved the design, he'd sign a sheet affixed to the art indicating his "OK."

The piece being offered here is Walt Disney's approval sheet for the 1943 wartime educational film "Water, Friend or Enemy."  The animated short film was a non-theatrical governmental short produced for the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs.  The film instructed the Latin America audience on how to prevent contamination of the water supply.  Steps were shown on how to construct well housings to prevent seepage of tainted water into the deep wells.  To show the path of the germs, the pure blue water turned red as it was contaminated, and this red was, in turn, transmitted to the well bucket, the rope, and then to the hands and bodies of the natives. To show how to kill these germs, a closeup of a teakettle revealed a red skull, which dissolved away as the water boiled.  In typical Disney fashion, an ordinary thing was made visually interesting.

This paper sheet measuring approximately 12" x 10" would have arrived on Walt Disney's desk as a cover sheet for the title art.  Walt has signed in pencil with his first name.  An 8" x 10" color photo (shown at the top of this page) will be included for framing.  Also includes the Phil Sears Collectibles Lifetime Guarantee of Authenticity.  A fascinating piece of the actual production process during the Disney Studio's 1940's, personally signed by Walt.  In fine condtion.  Item # 1466, $1995
