Production Cel from
"MOTHER GOOSE GOES HOLLYWOOD"
Gifted to Edward G. Robinson by Walt Disney

Famed for his gangster and tough guy roles, Edward G. Robinson appeared in cartoon form in Walt Disney's 1938 short "Mother Goose Goes Hollywood."  The animated short film parodies popular Hollywood stars of the era through classic nursery rhyme characters.  The cartoon features caricatures of famous celebrities such as W.C. Fields, Katharine Hepburn, Greta Garbo, the Marx Brothers-- and of course Edward G. Robinson-- in whimsical fairy tale roles. 

This original production cel was a gift from Walt Disney to the actor.  Walt Disney has boldly signed it in green crayon:

Walt Disney has signed in his famous block printing.  Included is an email from the previous owner: 

"... As a hobby, my father and I attend storage unit auctions. After winning our most recent auction, I discovered a box that had the Edward G Robinson cel inside along with the Walt Disney autograph... I will say that, If the Walt Disney autograph would not have accompanied the cel, I would have never thought it could be a collectible item..."

The Disney signature and inscription has been cut from the original mat and attractively reframed as shown above.  The cel is trimmed to the outline of the character and set against an airbrushed background as was custom at Disney when preparing cels for display or gifts.  Some rippling to airbrushed background and minor paint discoloration to cel as shown; otherwise very fine condition.  Measures 18.5" x 14.5" overall.  Mat opening of cel approximately 8" x 7.5".  An extremely rare opportunity to own a cel gifted by Walt Disney to a famous Hollywood star associated with a classic Disney cartoon short.  Includes the Phil Sears Collectibles Lifetime Guarantee of Authenticity.  Framed.  Item # 1542, $8995
