Fountain Pen Autograph

When fans wrote to the Disney Studio asking for Walt Disney's autograph, often they received a signature signed by one of Walt Disney's employees signing on Walt Disney's behalf.  But a few lucky fans received the real thing, like the autographed card offered here.

Walt Disney signed his name in thick, fountain pen ink on a 5" x 3" card. It was an autograph of this era and style (late 1940s/early 1950s cursive) that the Walt Disney Company used for the box cover of the 2016 D23 member gift (photo at right; D23 item not included).

Throughout his life, Walt Disney used both a block printed signature and a cursive ("handwritten") signature.  The block signature is what people expected to see from a cartoonist, while the cursive signature was Walt's true, legal signature.  He signed his letters, checks, and legal documents with a cursive autograph.  This autograph is a large, bold example of Walt Disney's personal cursive autograph, circa 1940s/1950s signed in fountain pen ink.  Fountain pens create thicker, darker, more elegant signatures than ballpoint pens.
