His Boyhood Home, Marceline, Missouri

Walt Disney made two visits back to his boyhood hometown as famous and successful showman; one in 1956 for the dedication of the Walt Disney park and pool, and another in October of 1960 for the dedication of the Walt Disney Elementary School. This rare autographed photo appears to be from his 1960 visit. The Polaroid instant photo, showing Walt and his wife Lillian enjoying a reception in a Marceline resident's home, was likely signed just moments after it was taken*.

*Update: Thanks to information from Kay Malins of Marceline (whose family purchased the Disney farm) and renowned collector Pat Renfro, we now know this photo was taken in 1956 at Marceline's Sante Fe Country Club. Walt Disney is standing with Lillian Disney and Wilma Wrenn, wife of the Mayor. Roy's wife Edna Disney is on the left.

Also included is a hardcover book produced by the city of Marceline in 1999, filled with historical photos documenting the town's growth and milestones.

This is a rare opportunity to know when and where a Walt Disney autograph was signed; in the town whose inspiration is apparent in so many Disney films and every Disney theme park. Marceline left such an impact on Walt as a boy that its main thoroughfare, Kansas Street, had become the inspiration for Main Street USA at Disneyland, and it was the family farm in Marceline that provided Walt with the exposure to all the animals that would later inspire so many of his films. Walt was important to Marceline, and the town was important to Walt; he eventually even built a miniature Disneyland Autopia ride in the municipal park! Photo measures approximately 4" x 3".
