Walt Disney Autographed
Rose Bowl Program Page The theme of "It's a Small World" was appropriate when Walt Disney was chosen as Grand Marshal of the 1966 Pasadena Rose Parade. I always tell Disney collectors that an autograph is so much more enjoyable when the history of how it was obtained has been preserved. Included with this wonderful pair of autographs of Walt Disney and Art Linkletter is an email from the original recipient:
I got both Walt Disney's autograph and Art Linkletter's
autograph on the same day. It was New Year's Day, and Walt
Disney was the Grand Marshall of the Rose parade in Pasadena. I
attended school across the street from a military facility which
is at the end of the Rose Parade route...
I was standing right next to the military center's
driveway, when Walt Disney's car pulled into the facility. I
wanted his autograph, so I went to the place where I could get
in.... I was only 10 and ran all over
that facility to find a piece of white paper, so I could have
Walt Disney sign it.
Walt Disney and Art Linkletter were close personal friends and their families socialized together. Walt Disney introduced Linkletter's popular book, "Kids Say the Darndest Things." Linkletter was Walt's choice for Disneyland's opening day Master of Cermonies job, but the design and construction of the park left Walt with little cash. So Linkletter accepted union scale for the job... and the exclusive rights to the camera and film concessions at Disneyland for the next 10 years! Page measures approximately 8.25" x 11". Paper loss
at bottom as shown; frayed edges and one vertical and one horizontal crease;
fragile overall.
