A Check with a Disneyland Connection!
 

A 1950 personally signed Walt Disney check made out to renowned mid-century modern architect William F. Cody, who designed Walt Disney's first Smoke Tree Ranch home.  It was this Palm Springs vacation home which Walt Disney famously sold in order to finance his plans for Disneyland.  You can read more about Cody and this house at D23:  https://d23.com/walts-hidden-hideaway/. 

The check is framed with great images of Mickey and his gal Minnie. 

 Collectors love signed checks for a number of reasons; indisputable authenticity (complete with the original bank stamps) and Disney's full legal Walter E. Disney signature.  Even if not signed a Walt Disney check would be a collector's item- printed with Walt Disney's name, business address (the Disney studio address), and direct from Walt's checkbook!  But Walt Disney has personally signed this 1950 bank check with a bold dark fountain pen signature. 

At the time this check was signed the Walt Disney Studios was bustling with various projects in different stages of development or release.  One of the most significant releases that year was "Cinderella," which premiered in February.  Another project in the works at the studio during that time was "Alice in Wonderland."  This film was released in 1951, but its production began in the late 1940s, overlapping with the production of "Cinderella."

The check is from Walt's personal account at a Burbank, California bank not far from the Walt Disney Studio.  Walt has signed with his longer legal name, Walter E. Disney in thick, dark fountain pen ink.  A similar Walt Disney signed check was offered in Disneyland's Disney Gallery for $22,000!
