A wonderful 8" x 10" photograph (circa 1939) of Walt Disney in his convertible posing proudly outside his brand new Burbank Disney Studio. Walt Disney has boldly autographed the photo in his famous block printing:
"TO PAT AYDELOTT Included with this Walt Disney autograph is an email from the former owner (in part): "... It is addressed to ... my great grandfather who helped build the Walt Disney Studios..." "...I’m not sure exactly what he did during the building of Walt Disney studios, but I do know that he was or became an architect after (so maybe a Junior Architect or something? - Unfortunately, all of my relatives I could ask for more info have since passed.)… With the success of 1937's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," Walt Disney had both the increased animaton workload and the financing necessary to build a new studio much larger than the Hyperion Avenue facility. In 1939 the studio in Burbank, California underwent construction, with the main building-- the Animation Building-- designed by architect Kem Weber. The Animation Building was built in the Streamline Moderne style, featuring earthquake-resistant construction, an early air conditioning system, and strategically placed windows to maximize natural light for the animators. Other structures constructed around this time included the water tower, built for fire safety, and the original soundstage, which housed filming for Fantasia's life action elements. The move from the former Hyperion Avenue studio in Hollywood began in 1939 and concluded in early 1940. This photograph
is an extremely
rare pose of Walt Disney beaming with pride over his new studio. Photo has
faint Walt Disney Productions stamp on reverse.
Some glue residue in upper right and lower left corners; otherwise very fine
condition. Includes the Phil Sears Collectibles Lifetime
